This is a developmental approach that follows a sound developmental sequence of movement exploration on top of the horse. This may include movement transitions between prone, side-sit, kneeling, four point, half-stand, and standing on the horse. It is designed to address the cognitive, perceptual and motor needs of children with a variety of physical disabilities.
Hippotherapy is the use of the horse's movement as a treatment tool by a licensed health professional. CATR Therapy Services offers physical therapy using Hippotherapy. This is direct therapy service and may therefore be reimbursed through most insurance. We are not currently offering Hippotherapy. Call our office to receive updates on this program.
Traditional horseback riding skills are taught with the goal of improving behavior, socialization, perceptual-motor, and cognitive skills. Usually a saddle is used in Remedial Riding, but a bareback pad and surcingle may be used depending on individual abilities.
The goal in Sports Riding is to teach traditional horseback riding skills for the purpose of sport and/or recreation. Equipment is adapted to individual needs, and instruction is therapeutically based but with the emphasis on acquiring enough skill to enjoy the sport of horseback riding.
